Gracilis is non-invasive. It's a clumping bamboo, so the roots stay tight and contained instead of spreading across your yard.

Give your bamboo at least half a day of direct sun for the best growth. Plant with roughly 1 metre of spacing between each one for a screen that fills in evenly.

Gracilis handles regular trimming without any setback, which makes shaping it simple. That's part of why it's the go-to variety for home screens.

Gracilis handles Sydney's warm summers and tolerates mild winter frost once established. Give new plants time to settle in before extreme heat or cold hits.

Gracilis Slender Weavers is the top pick and the store's best-selling plant. It works for screening anywhere between 2 and 6 metres tall.

Space your plants about 1 metre apart for a full, connected screen. Go wider if you start with taller plants or don't need instant coverage.

A young Gracilis often adds a metre or more of height in a single growing season. Growth speed depends on your soil, sun, and watering.

Bamboo grows well in pots, especially the 1 to 2 metre sizes. Pot-grown plants just need more frequent watering than ones planted in the ground.

Clumping bamboo grows from short rhizomes, so roots stay close to the plant. Running bamboo spreads through long rhizomes that travel underground for metres.

Clumping varieties like Gracilis keep their roots in a tight clump near the plant, so they won't push under fences or pipes the way running bamboo does. Regular trimming keeps growth open and easy to manage.

Left untrimmed, Gracilis reaches 6 to 8 metres. Most home gardens trim it back and keep it between 2 and 5 metres.
